Description

Visit Trou aux Cerfs,  a dormant volcano with a well-defined cone and crater. It is 605 m high and located in Curepipe. Standing atop the Trou aux Cerfs, guests will be able to enjoy spectacular 360° views stretching all the way to the sea.

Then drive through Black River Gorges National Park with its the wild rolling landscape. Learn about the high concentration of endemic plant and animal life here.  Catch a glimpse of nature’s beauty on the way to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin, which is filled with a spiritual atmosphere.

Later you head further south-west to capture the various wonders of the Seven Coloured Sands of Chamarel.  These fascinating sands, formed from the decomposition of volcanic rock into clay and further transformed into ferralitic soil by hydrolysis are a variety of different colours, red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow. The spectacle of the different colours is striking but the phenomenon of the separation of the colours is not yet fully understood.  You can buy a small bottle of the sands.  If you shake the different colours together they will separate back into the original colour!

The Rhumerie de Chamarel offers a guided distillery tour and a tasting of some excellent Mauritian rum.  Rum is one of the exports from Mauritius and they make some fine examples of this versatile spirit.
