If one day is all you have for an African safari then this is the tour for you.  Collection from your address in Johannesburg by your personal driver in an air-conditioned vehicle with Wifi, and a short 2 hours later arrive at the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. This malaria-free park is perched on the eroded vestiges of an alkaline volcanic crater.

You transfer to an open Safari Vehicle for your morning  2.5 to 3hour game drive with a highly qualified ranger. Your ranger knows this area well and will take you to the best spots for viewing the big 5 [elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino] and many other animals of the African bush. He will share his knowledge of the bush and the animals that inhabit it and answer any queries that you may have. He will use his knowledge of animal spoors to track animals to their location so that you get the best sightings.

Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa’s fourth largest game park, is situated in a crater in the Bojanala Region of the North West Province. This extinct volcano has evolved to become one of the most fascinating landscapes. It is in a transition zone between the dry Kalahari and wetter Lowveld vegetation, commonly referred to as "Bushveld". Unlike any other large park, unique overlaps of mammals, birdlife and vegetation occur because of this transition zone. The Genesis project, which was the largest translocation of wild life has ensured that the majority of South Africa’s wildlife is now found in the Pilanesberg game reserve. Since late 1979, thanks to Operation Genesis - the largest game translocation ever undertaken at the time, tourists have been able to take note of nature's alphabet - from aardvark to zebra. The park boasts healthy populations of lion, elephant, leopard, white and black rhino and buffalo - Africa's "Big Five".  You will certainly be able to tick off many of the great and small of the bush.

The park covers an area of 55 000 hectares. More than 7000 animals live here in a free and unhindered environment. Other animals that you may encounter are zebra, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, hippo, crocodile, jackal, wild cat, various antelope as well as over 300 bird species - the list is endless.

During the heat of the day you will enjoy lunch at one of the many rest camps in the National Park before departing on a 2 to 21/2 hour afternoon open vehicle safari drive

Our vehicles depart the National Park between 15:30 – 16:00 in order to arrive back in Johannesburg before sunset.

Bring your camera to have a permanent record of all the wild animals and the spectacular landscape this National Park has to offer.

  • I normally prefer to go on my own game drive but this was a different experience, could sit back relax and take it all in.
