This Tour is for those who want to see as much as possible in a day in Johannesburg.

You get to see the best of Soweto, the very moving Apartheid Museum and some of the high lights of central Johannesburg. Lunch can be arranged [for own account] somewhere in between your busy program.

On this full day tour, your guide, who was born and raised in Soweto, will take you past all the hotspots in Soweto. The tour will take you deep into township culture, so you can personally experience Soweto, the vibrant and lively sister city of Johannesburg.

On our way to Soweto we pass by the National Football Stadium City, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup 2010. We enter the Diepkloof area, where we will take a walk down dusty paths, past fences made of bed springs and detritus, vendors selling just about anything and interact with some of the locals. You drive through the affluent suburb of Orlando West and walk down busy Vilakazi Street, past the former home of two Nobel Peace Prize Winners, Nelson Mandela and past the home of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. For a fee you can enter the Mandela Museum [for own account] and learn a little about this larger than life man. As the Hector Pieterson Museum you will have an opportunity to read about the Soweto uprising on 16 June 1976. On that tragic day an innocent little boy called Hector Pieterson gave up his life and kick-started the liberation of South Africa. This evocative museum pays tribute to all the children and adults who lost their lives during this infamous time in our history.

By now you will have seen the good, the bad and the ugly facets of Soweto. We drive past the Soweto Campus of the Johannesburg University and end our tour with a stop at the largest hospital in the world: Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

After Lunch we visit the world famous Apartheid Museum. From the moment you arrive you are introduced to the concept of 'separateness', as you are handed a coloured card which gives you entrance through one of two turn-stiles: either "Whites" or "Blacks". This moving and evocative display tells the story of this shameful period of our country and gives an understanding of what apartheid South Africa was really like.

Then we head off to downtown Johannesburg. We take you to the top sites Johannesburg has to offer. Lookout for some of the Colonial and Art Deco buildings as you cruise through the busy streets. Some of the areas our tour passes through are Hillbrow , Central Johannesburg, Braamfontein and Newtown.

We start your introduction to Jozi with a view of the impressive 269 metre Telkom Tower, as seen on many postcards of Johannesburg. We then enter the inspiring Constitution Hill – and Court (when not in session). Political activists like Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were once held here. During a tour inside you will learn about some of the legal history of Johannesburg.

On our way to Newtown we pass by the longest southern African bridge, named Nelson Mandela bridge. At Mary Fitzgerald Square you can walk on
the Jazz Walk of Fame.

We end this tour with a visit to the Carlton Centre, also known as the ‘Top of Africa’. There a lift will elevate you 50 stories for an amazing and total view over the city. In short, this tour offers you a unique Johannesburg experience at an affordable rate.

Relax back in the vehicle and ponder the experiences of the day as your guide navigates the busy roads back to your place of departure.
