Cage Dive with Great White Sharks in the world's most famous Great White shark hunting ground: Gansbaai's Shark Alley. At the southern tip of Africa, where two mighty ocean meet, you will find the worlds richest marine life. This is Marine Big 5 territory [Great White Sharks, whales, penguins, seals, dolphins] and so much more.
Your driver/guide will collect you at 5h00 to set off for the 2h30 journey to Gansbaai. Breakfast will be provided on arrival in Gansbaai, so no need to worry about missing your hotel's morning treats. After a full security briefing you will make your way to the boat waiting to take you out to the world-famous Shark Alley, off the coast of Gansbaai. (2h 30min)
Shark Alley
Cruise out into some of the richest waters in the marine world. Head for Dyer Island, just offshore, and observe the large colony of African penguins along with a multitude of other bird species. This is also home to many rare pelagic birds. On neighboring Geyser Rock resides a 60,000-strong community of Cape fur seals; fascinating to watch as they gambol and twirl in the water or socialize and bask in the sun on their private isle.
All of these marine mammals make for attractive hunting grounds for big predators. The channel between these 2 rocky outcrops is known as Shark Alley and the most notorious of them all, the Great White Shark, is common here. With your expert team on-board, there's also a good chance of tracking a humpback or Bryde's whale. Relish the opportunity to catch sight of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. This is marine Big 5 [whale, shark, dolphin, seal, penguin] territory and you may get to see them all.
Anchored at Shark Alley you will get the chance to enjoy all of its inhabitants, from its seals and various birdlife, to Southern Right Whales visiting its waters in season (July to November), and of course the Great White shark. A wetsuit and a diving mask will be provided for you to share the waters with these awesome creatures from the safety of a cage which is attached to the boat and floats right next to it. The time you spend into the cage is between 10 and 30 minutes as it depends on the weather and the number of spotted sharks. No diving experience is required. (3h)
De-brief
Upon completion of your cage dive and arrival back at Gansbaai harbour, you will get the chance to watch the day's actions on DVD while devouring a well-deserved lunch. On request, a certificate will be provided and you can purchase the DVD to share this incredible day with your friends and family.
Your driver will take you back to Cape Town via the scenic holiday port of Hermanus, past Betty's Bay,Pringle Bay and along the spectacular Clarence Drive which hugs the coast for 23 km and is arguably the most scenic drive in the world. With views out over False Bay every twist and turn reveals another bay and another beach. At Gordon's Bay you join the N2 and head back into Cape Town.
