Description

A short hours drive inland and you could imagine that you have found yourself in the English countryside. Green hills, bubbling streams and country homes with the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains framing the scene in the distance.  You pass fields with horses and cows gazing and little farm stores at the road side. This is a place of beauty and open skies - and sometimes a little mist.

This is a rather relaxing day, taking you through the Valley of 1000 Hills, and then on through the picturesque Natal Midlands.

The Midlands Meander is a collection of tourist routes in KwaZulu-Natal offering stunning accommodation, arts and crafts, fine cuisine and so much more!

The tour starts with a drive through the residential suburbs of Westville and Kloof.  After a short stop at Alexandra Park in Pietermaritzburg we view the many Victorian buildings of the colonial town like the Alexander Park Cricket Oval Grand Stand.  Then on to World's View - a spectacular view site overlooking the surrounding country side with Pietermaritzburg lying nestled below. The next stop is at Howick Falls on the Umgeni river, which is a spectacular 107 Meter drop and is surrounded by craft vendors and curio sellers.

The rest of the day is spent leisurely meandering – there is something of interest for everyone with outlets selling delights ranging from Swiss Goat cheese to leather works, glass, pottery and much more.

After lunch at one of the local country inns (for own account) visit weavers, potters, leatherworks, galleries and craft shops. The route will depend on the guests interests, with so much charm there is something for everyone. ( lunch for own account)

Lunch is at a stop of your choice, and there are a number of Bed and Breakfasts, coffee shops and restaurants nestling in the tranquil foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains, to choose from.

Relax and Rejuvenate in the fresh mountain air.
