This half day safari includes two wildlife reserves; the Natal Lion Park and Tala Game Reserve. Get into the African bush and experience a taste of the wild.
A short, pleasant, one hour's drive from Durban through rolling hills and grasslands and you will arrive at your first exciting stop the Natal Lion Park. It is home to a variety of wildlife including Lion, African and Asian Elephants as well as Rhino. Your guide will drive around the 7 kilometre loop of trees and bush to find sightings of the African Elephant, the largest land mammal in the world, standing 4 metres tall and weighing as much as 6 tons. The chances are you will also catch sight of Rhino, antelope and a variety of birds. At the end of the loop you will enter the open air, lion’s enclosure. It is quite something to view these huge predators from just a few metres away with only a few centimetres of window glass serving as protection between you and one of Africa's most respected predators. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy the excitement of being so close to lions and catch them on camera from close up. These incredible African mammals are a sight to behold up close!
Next, you visit Tala Private Game Reserve which is a wildlife conservancy set in a quiet farming community, that hosts a diverse selection of wildlife on a 3000 hectares reserve. Tala Game Reserve is a Rhino sanctuary and is home to over 370 bird species and wildlife that includes Rhino, Giraffe, Hippo and Eland to name a few of the bigger animals. Our guide will drive around the park in our closed vehicle to view all the wildlife and have a close look at the Rhinos. He will give insight into the wildlife ecosystem and share some interesting facts about the animals.
From being greeted by warthogs as you arrive at the reception area to having zebras and giraffes amble around the entrance, Tala Collection Game Reserve, encompassing a mix of acacia thornveld, open grassland and a sensitive wetland, offers a memorable experience for all types of travellers. It is also malaria free. Although close to Durban you’ll feel like you're a million miles away from everything.
One of the most appealing aspects of this KwaZulu-Natal game reserve is its ease of accessibility, coming to or from Durban
