A whirlwind 2-day Kruger Wildlife Safari, enjoy some of South Africa’s finest wildlife including the big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino), game drives, outdoor meals and rustic accommodation!
Depart daily from Johannesburg.
We depart Johannesburg in the early morning in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. Driving via the Highveld farmlands, winding down the picturesque escapment and descending into the scenic Lowveld you arrive in the heart of Mpumalanga. This area is often humid and warm and you will pass plantations of citrus, mango, avocado and litchi trees with cascades of colourful bougainvillea and scented frangipani.
We stop en route for a quick breakfast [for own account]. After arriving at the Kruger Park we do a morning game drive in a closed vehicle as we make our way to our accommodation in the Heart of the Kruger National Park. This is a wilderness region that falls within the internationally-declared Kruger2Canyons UNESCO Man and Biosphere. Your first night is at Pretoriuskop, one of the oldest camps in Kruger and rich in diverse species of game. Guests stay in thatched, air-conditioned en-suite [shower] bungalows. The units are traditionally 2-sleeper bungalows called rondavels [round huts]. Twin beds with a kitchenette with small fridge and tea/coffee making facilites. Depending on availability, you can request a family guest cottage. It has a small lounge and kitchenette and two bedrooms suitable for 2 adults and 2 children. The units have mosquito netting on the windows and doors and cell phone signal is available in the camp but no WiFi. The camp has an enormous swimming pool wrapped around a granite rock, so be sure to bring your bathing costume.
Breakfasts and dinners are prepared in a camp kitchen in a private section of Pretoriuskop Rest Camp and served in our open-air dining tent. It’s a lovely way to experience the African bush, dining under the stars around a campfire. Enjoy the sounds and smells of the bushveld. If it’s raining, dinner will be served in the camp restaurant.
Pretoriuskop Rest Camp has an onsite restaurant for take-away's and a Park shop for drinks and snacks. Stock up before leaving for the 3-hour game drive but please note; no alcohol may be drunk on the open safari vehicles during game drives.
After settling into your air-conditioned chalet, relax, enjoy an invigorating dip in the pool, unwind at the bar or relax in the beautiful gardens. At around 16h00 we board the open safari vehicle for an exciting Big Five Sunset Drive. Your qualified guide will enrich your first experience of the varied African fauna and flora with interesting information and wonderful stories. Dont forget to look into the sky for the many bird species. The endemic Baleleur Eagle is a common aerial acrobat and the exquisite lilac-brested roller is a treat to watch. Stop to enjoy the magnificent African sunset and after darkness falls, we use powerful spotlights to locate nocturnal animals. A three course alfresco dinner is served back at your lodge after the safari drive.
Day Two:
Wake up early for hot beverages and rusks and then depart for a sunrise game drive. Enjoy a light breakfast back at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp before packing up and departing for Johannesburg. Your journey home takes you along the panoramic route towards amazing 3 Rondawels at the Blyde River Canyon. After lunch [for own account], we return to Johannesburg.
