Description

Your tour starts in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana,

Visiting the Central Botswana from south to north is an adventure apart from any other.  This safari will give you the entire experience. You start in the arid Karahari Desert, which some bushmen still call home, and animals have adapted to the harsh environment.  Then onto the Okavanga Delta proper where you spend time being poled in a mokoro [dug out canoe] down the lazy, crystal clear steams past elephant, antelope and buffalo, with flashes of bright colour as kingfishers dive for fish and the sound of the iconic cry of Fish Eagle, the cry of Africa.  The Delta is a maze of meandering channels, crystal clear lagoons and sandy, verdant islands. Across its 15,000 square kilometres, the Okavango Delta is very flat, varying just two metres in height.  It is a vast inland river delta which is home to all major, natural to Africa, herbivore and carnivore species, and over 400 birds species have been recorded.  It is identified as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This tour take you north to Moremi which is held to be one of the most beautiful wildlife reserves in Africa as it combines mopane woodland and acacia forests, floodplains and lagoons.  It is the great diversity of plant and animal life that makes Moremi special.  It has permanent wetland and dry savanna woodland.

You spend 2 days in the Savuti which is a place of enchantment, of beauty, and boasts the greatest concentrations of animals in Southern Africa. Your time here will be filled with excitement and discovery.  A remote and wild corner of Chobe National Park, Savute stretches from the park's northern boundaries to the Linyanti River.  Savuti is well known for its resident elephant and lion population and the unique interaction of the predator species. Wild dog are also regularly seen as well as a large variety of mammals and antelope. Savuti is a favored area of wildlife & birdlife photographers and film makers. The wildlife is dynamic in this section of the park especially the migration of zebras and the predators following them i.e. lions, hyenas and cheetahs. There are large herds of elephant, wildebeests, warthogs, kudus, impalas, crocodile and hippopotamus as well as the elusive Klipspringer antelope the aardvark and aardwolf and the endangered Wild dog in the Savuti Channel. The birdlife is amazing in the Savuti Marsh especially during the summer migration.

Then two days in the Chobe Game Reserve. The park is widely known for its large elephant population, it is a haven for the biggest elephant populations on the planet, estimated to be around 120,000.  These gentle giants living here are Kalahari elephants, the largest in size of all known elephant populations.  In the dry season, these elephants sojourn in Chobe River and the Linyanti River areas. In the rainy season, they make a 200-kilometre migration to the south-eastern stretch of the park. Apart from elephants, there is excellent game viewing along the Chobe river drive. Animals need to come and drink water. Large raptors are nesting close to the Chobe river, and water birds are abundant and migrating birds.

The Chobe river Camping in Chobe is an authentic wilderness experience

Your experienced guide knows the area well and can read tracks left on the road to find you the best sightings.  You get to enjoy two game drives or mokoro rides, a day in one of the world’s premier wilderness areas, home to large herds of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, antelope, leopard, hyena, zebra and crocodile.  These are just some of the animals that you might see. During the dry season, around 260,000 mammals congregate around the delta.

Time spent in this unique environment is a "back to Eden" experience. This wild untamed area of Africa has remained unchanged for thousands of years. You get to experience the Africa of the early adventurers of a few hundred years ago. The annual flooding of the delta creates a new and changing world where animals move from the few pockets of water in the dry months to the grassy plains during the wet months.
